Mission
Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit offers advanced monitoring and evaluation to improve outcomes for patients with acute neurological conditions, such as Neurosurgical, Neuro-Trauma and Neurovascular illnesses and injuries including a multiplicity of Neurological disorders
the 20-bed Unit features rooms that are hardwired to enable traditional and video EEG to be downloaded directly for remote access. • Moderate sedation provides the appropriate medication to have surgery without discomfort, but not in a deep sleep
• Regional anesthesia numbs only the portion of the body where the surgical procedure takes place and allows you to communicate with your care team during the procedure. The most common forms of regional anesthesia include spinal, epidural and regional block anesthesia.
• Spinal anesthesia is used for lower abdominal, pelvic, rectal or lower extremity surgeries
• Epidural anesthesia is similar to a spinal anesthesia and is commonly used for surgery of the lower limbs and during labor and childbirth
Regional block anesthesia is when your anesthesiologist injects medication near a cluster of nerves to numb only the area of your body that requires surgery
Anesthesia safety
1- You need to come a day or two to the hospital to prepare before your operation and meet your anesthesiologist
2- Be sure to inform the anesthesiologist what medications and drugs you take. Including over-the-counter medications, herbs, supplements, alcohol or other drugs. You will be asked when those were last taken.
3- Follow all instructions given by your anesthesiologist regarding food and drink before your procedure.
4- Have an adult family member or friend drive you home after the procedure.
For the first 24 hours after your surgery:
• Do not drive or use heavy equipment.
